US judge orders Trump to return deported Venezuelan gang members
US District Judge James Boasberg ruled that approximately 137 men, sent to a detention center in El Salvador in March, must be allowed to return to the United States to challenge their removal under the 1798 Alien Enemies Act. The ruling emphasized that the men were denied proper notice and the opportunity to contest their deportation.
“They should not have been removed in the manner that they were, with virtually no notice and no opportunity to contest the basis of their removal, in clear contravention of their due-process rights,” Boasberg stated.
The judge ordered the US government to submit a plan within two weeks detailing how the individuals’ return will be facilitated. The men were originally deported under the provisions of the Alien Enemies Act.
